After its release date was teased , the official Naruto Next Generation website has announced the official premiere date of the Boruto manga and the special one-shot from Naruto creator, Masashi Kishimoto .
The Boruto manga, illustrated by Mikie Ikemoto, will release on May 9 in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in both Japan and in English via Viz Media, which has confirmed same day release. After the premiere on May 9, the Boruto manga will release once a month starting with 2016’s 23rd issue of Shonen Jump.
The special Kishimoto one-shot will drop in the combined 22nd and 23rd issues on April 25.
Kishimoto is not set to write/illustrate the Boruto manga after more than a decade on Naruto, but has chosen to remain as a supervisor of the Naruto spin-off to guide it to the next era of ninja.
The legendary storyteller has already laid the groundwork for the ninja world after the conclusion of the Great Ninja War. Kishimoto wrote the special Naruto: The Hokage and the Scarlet Spring miniseries and wrote the script for the Boruto movie.
Kishimoto also wrote a special one-shot back in August with The Day Naruto Became Hokage but the contents of this special story are yet unknown.
Ikemoto, who worked as an assistant under Kishimoto, is drawing Boruto and will tell the story of Naruto and Hinata’s son. And with the first key visuals released, Boruto will not be alone as Sarada (the daughter of Sasuke and Sakura) and Orochimaru’s son, Mitsuki.
We’re looking forward to seeing some of the lesser known next generation of ninja but we will have to wait another month to read Kishimoto’s one-shot and the start of the monthly Boruto manga.
In the meantime, let us know what you think of the new manga and what you are looking forward to the most in the comments section.
