Burnout may have been made as a racing game, but its Crash Mode is what is most fondly remembered. Because of this, original Burnout developers at Three Fields Entertainment have decided to make a whole game based on the mode.
Called Danger Zone, the game is pretty explicitly a take on Crash Mode. Three Fields Entertainment, started by Criterion co-founders Fiona Sperry and Alex Ward, has the right minds behind on board get that same level of destructive bliss we all remember so fondly.
“We are going back to our roots by creating a game in a genre we are truly passionate about,” said Sperry in a press statement. “Danger Zone takes what made the Crash Mode featured in 2004’s Burnout 3: Takedown so popular and transforms it into an all-new car-crashing, arcade-style puzzle game.”
Going off the game’s screenshots, players will be able to drive a number of different vehicles. It looks like semis and taxi cabs are confirmed, with police cars appearing in a number of different shots as well. Regardless of what vehicles end up in the finalized game, it’s a safe assumption to guess they will be blown up at some point.
According to the official website, Danger Zone will feature a single-player campaign with 20 different crash scenarios as well as leaderboards, so you can see how much destruction you’ve created compared to your friends. Danger Zone is releasing digitally for PS4 and PC via Steam, and will be available some time in May. The game will sell for $12.99.
