Activision confirmed plans that it would soon let console players in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" and "Warzone 2" disable crossplay with PC in Ranked mode as reports of cheaters continue to ramp up.
The issue of unfair play has become one of the most talked about topics among hardcore "Call of Duty" players since the release of Ranked mode in "Call of Duty: Black Ops 6" and "Warzone." This followed the release of Season 1 last year.
Disabling Crossplay in Ranked Mode
It is believed that the prevalence of cheaters in the famous shooter franchise is the main thing that is ruining competitive multiplayer. Fans have been criticizing Activision for the studio's failure to address the issue properly.
Team Ricochet, which is the division responsible for the anti-cheat tech for Activision's "Call of Duty" brand, admitted last month that not enough was done to prevent cheating with the launch of Season 1.
At the time, the publisher said that its systems were in a better place across all modes following a series of updates. However, it noted that they did not meet the mark for the integration of Ricochet Anti-Cheat following Season 1's launch, according to IGN.
The publisher also outlined its plan to address cheating within the "Call of Duty" franchise this year. Activision has already issued more than 136,000 Ranked mode account bans since it was launched.
Season, which is scheduled to arrive soon, will reportedly include new and improved client and server-side detections and systems. It would also apparently come along with a major kernel-level driver update.
Addressing the Issue of Cheaters
Additionally, Ranked mode will get a new feature called "Vote to Forfeit," which allows players to vote for their team to forfeit a match if they are about to be eliminated or have lost a teammate.
The matches that players forfeit will count as a standard loss and will not come with SR penalties or suspensions, WCCFTech said.
Furthermore, when Season 2 launches, players will be allowed to rejoin a Ranked mode match if they experienced a temporary connection issue. The developers believe that this should help keep more matches fuller.
Developer Treyarch said that the ability to disable crossplay with PC will not be available in standard multiplayer modes, at least not at launch. It noted that it would be monitoring the situation closely and would consider changes in the future depending on what happens.
At base level, the crossplay feature in the "Call of Duty" franchise is an amazing feature that lets players play with more people across various platforms.
However, the prevalence of cheaters makes it an issue as a lot of these unfair players are on PC, which gives them an unfair advantage against console players, according to The Gamer.
