Ironic reboots of old TV shows are rampant. Joining Baywatch in 2017 is a CHiPs movie. But since CHiPs has been off-the-air for 33 years, it’s probably more sensible to just view this as a 21 Jump Street spin-off. Because that vibe is all over the first CHIPs trailer.
While the Baywatch marketing has so far focused on beach bodies and swearing, this first CHIPs trailer offers a completely different vision of our comedy future. There’s an obviously predominant theme in this first trailer: mens’ clothed genitals. How many different ways can CHIPs construct scenarios for Michael Peña to freak out about Dax Shepard’s package? The possibilities are perhaps infinite.
When it’s not about crotch-bumping, it’s about elaborate face-penis scenarios. And when it’s not about face-penis scenarios, it’s about erections.
2017 is off to a very stupid start.
