Just hours ago, Deadpool writer Rhett Reese shot down rumors Janelle Monae would play Domino in the sequel. Now, thanks to Deadpool himself, we know who will: Zazie Beetz. The actress killed it in the role of Van in Atlanta (our favorite show of 2016). Beetz played the only female lead as Earn’s (played by Donald Glover) kind-of girlfriend and mother of their child. While Earn is trying to manage his Cousin, it’s Van who’s providing for their baby and holding down the fort.

Those same character traits from Atlanta are perfect for the role of Domino, described as “capable” and “confident” in the casting breakdown. She’s a “no-nonsense badass who rarely shows her feelings.” She has “bullet-proof sarcasm,” but has trouble showing vulnerability because it’s “hard for her to let down her guard.” Beetz’s witty personality on Atlanta and experience working on a comedy has certainly prepared her for Deadpool 2. Glover’s Earn was one of the funniest characters we’ve met since Ryan Reynolds’ Wade debuted in the first Deadpool.
Domino is a member of X-Force who will be introduced alongside Cable, her mutant time-traveling lover in the comics. Domino’s telekinetic powers only take effect when in action. It’s like her body instinctively fights for safety if she takes action, but if she doesn’t, she could be injured and hurt just like a normal human. Cable has not yet been cast.
Deadpool 2 is expected in 2018. What do you think of Zazie Beetz as Domino? Let us know in the comments.
