Those looking for some team-based multiplayer action are in for a treat. Knockout City is arriving on different platforms this May 21. The best way to describe this game is it’s a large-scale dodgeball mixed with a few surprises.
It’s going to be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Once the game goes live, it’s not only going to support crossplay but even cross-progression on all systems.
Gameplay Experience
Knockout City offers Street Play where players can take part in 3v3, 4v4, or even free-for-all quick matches. There’s League Play as well for a more competitive experience via Ranked games. Friends can also play against each other through Private Match.
At the beginning of each match, all players have the same level and must use their skill to get an advantage over opponents. Besides skill, it’s just as important to have a strong and solid team. Like your typical dodgeball game, this one is easy to pick up and play but practice is key when mastering different facets of the game like positioning, timing, and of course, teamwork.
That goes without saying that Knockout City is offering players a wide range of customization options. Almost everything about the playable character can be customized from appearance, gear, attitude, and all the way to taunts and KO effects.
Launch Plans
Once the game launches, a free trial will be available for a limited period. Here are the top features the game offers:
- five multiplayer maps
- one interactive environment where players and their Crew can practice
- six ball types
- full character customization
- crossplay
- cross-progression
- Street Play with five starting playlists
- League Play
- Private Match
- complete Street Rank Progression that comes with hundreds of cosmetic items
Post-launch plans include new content to be introduced through seasons for free. For each season, players can expect, among others, new maps, new modes, new balls, and even limited-time events.
Knockout City is having a beta on PC this weekend, February 20 to 21, though only offered for players in North America and Europe. You can access the closed beta here.
Velan Studios Co-founder and CEO Karthik Bala said that while the game makes use of a simple concept of dodgeball, it actually requires players to have a good amount of skill. He said that they’re excited for players to experience what they have to offer with the first closed beta.
Meanwhile, Steve Pointon at EA said that they’re happy to work with Veland and looking forward to everyone trying out Knockout City .
