Dota 2 released an update which brings some rather interesting changes to Dota Plus. The arrival of the new update also marks the beginning of the Fall Season.
For those not familiar, Dota Plus is a premium monthly subscription service that makes it a bit easier to play Dota 2. It includes a lot of interesting features like getting access to guides that help as you play. There is also hero progression and even statistical analysis.
With this new update, players that subscribe to Dota Plus can now buy new treasure using shards. Treasures include sets for:
- Nyx Assassin
- Leshrac
- Medusa
- Vengeful Spirit
- Weaver
- Clockwerk
- Faceless Void
- Doom
- Sven
- Axe
- Crystal Maiden
- Tusk
In a post, Valve said that the “plan right now is to have a new seasonal treasure available for purchase with shards every three months.” That means the next treasure is going to be available on December 1.
That’s not all as Dota Plus members can also earn as many as 57,850 shards from a new season of quests. The extra shards should give members the currency needed to take advantage of the Seasonal Treasure.
There’s also going to be a new UI in the hero selection for Dota Plus members. In particular, there’s a Role Assistant hero grid arraignment which displays heroes in their most picked roles. This is updated automatically in order to highlight the current trends and can even be filtered by MMR rank. There are features of the Battle Pass that are now in Dota Plus which include:
- The Chat Wheel sound effects (e.g. Moo, Orchestra Hit) are now available by redeeming shards.
- The pull timers when holding ALT are now available to Dota Plus members.
- The post-game healing and gold breakdowns have now merged with the existing Dota Plus damage tab.
- The Battle Pass MVP feature is now available for all players, but Dota Plus customers can earn extra shards with a new Seasonal quest.
Something for Everyone
Valve said in the same post that they also “want all players to enjoy earning and spending Shards, so we have changed the currency to be available to all players rather than being Dota Plus exclusive.” Valve added that while being a Dota Plus member remains the best way to earn shards, they’re offering a “subset of features to be available for all players.” These are:
- All players can now reach up to Hero Level 5 without a Dota Plus subscription.
- Only subscribers can reach Silver tier and above.
- All players can now use tipping for shards.
- All players can now earn the weekly shard reward for winning three matches.
- Non-subscribers earn 500 shards per week.
- Dota Plus members earn 1,000 shards per week.
- The Dota Plus Rewards store has been renamed to the “Shard Shop”, and the premium hero sets, legacy hero sets, and tools are now purchasable by everyone.
- The Seasonal treasure, Chat Wheel sound effects, and Hero Relics remain Dota Plus exclusive.
So are you interested yet in getting that Dota Plus subscription?
