If Dota 2 team OG was planning for a three-peat in The International 10, it’s really going to be a difficult road ahead. That’s because Team Secret just gave them the smackdown and showed them who’s boss. There’s still a chance for OG but it also means a chance to be eliminated for every match.
So what happened? In a word, OG got outplayed and the only difference was it took Secret longer to finish things off in the first game. For that particular game, Lasse Aukusti “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen and Michał “Nisha” Jankowski were just too good. Both players had double-digit kills at the end of the game. OG’s Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan did what he could but it wasn’t enough.
For the second game, Secret managed to get Ursa for MATUMBAMAN and that alone signaled things would be difficult for OG. Their last pick was Tinker for Nisha which was more than a match for the Hoodwink of Topias Miikka “Topson” Taavitsainen.
While OG managed to get first blood, Secret got the advantage and never looked back. Here are two facts about the second game that proved why it was such a lopsided match:
OG’s second team kill was just after the 12-minute mark and by that time they had nine team deaths.
At the end of the game, the total team kills for OG was 5 while Secret had 42.
It’s worth noting that the last time this happened to OG was in 2017. Back then, they were promptly eliminated by TNC. Can OG do better this time? We’ll see in the coming days.
Getting the Win
The Team Secret versus OG was actually the second match of the day. The first one was Invictus Gaming versus Team Spirit.
For the first game, Spirit surprised everyone and did it in fashion. We say that because what appeared to be a smoke gank turned into the end game. Now, IG had been in the lead from the start of the game.
With Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk on Morphling and having picked up a double damage rune, Spirit smoked up to try and get a pick. They managed to find IG which led to a team fight where Yatoro got rampage or five kills. This gave them the opening to go for a GG push and claim the victory.
Exciting as the first game was, the next two games were pretty much all IG. Invictus Gaming faces Secret in the next round.
Elimination Matches
As of this writing, there are four matches left. What’s interesting about them is that they are all elimination matches. They are in the lower bracket and Bo1. These are:
Team Undying vs. Fnatic
Quincy Crew vs. Aster
Beastcoast vs. Alliance
Evil Geniuses vs. Elephant
