The much-awaited game from Funcom has already been confirmed to be released later this year, with "Dune: Awakening" set to debut this May. However, the company's announcement has a caveat following it as not all gamers will get the chance to try out the anticipated massively multiplayer online (MMO) game.
Despite this, the hype behind "Dune: Awakening" has been huge, and it is one of the most comprehensive and immersive games behind the franchise created by Frank Herbert.
'Dune: Awakening' Release Date Revealed, With a Catch
Funcom's "Dune: Awakening" release date trailer has been dropped, and it confirms the game's arrival on May 20. However, it came with a massive catch as the release date is only confirmed for the PC gaming platform, and this means that console users will have to wait for further updates regarding its availability.
When Funcom first announced the "Dune: Awakening" MMO game, the company revealed that it will be a multi-platform release, which includes the PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and X, and Linux.
However, the latest official confirmation from the developers only focused on its PC release, and the team did not share any reasons behind the delay for consoles, leaving fans hanging for its release.
Moreover, despite the game's nearing release date for PC, the team is yet to open pre-orders for the game. The good thing, however, is that its base price tag has already been revealed, and the standard game will be priced at $49.99.
The pre-order for "Dune: Awakening" is also offering a small bonus for gamers as they will get exclusive access to the Terrarium of Muad'Dib, a known location from the novels that was recently featured in Denis Villeneuve's "Dune: Part Two."
Here's What to You Can Do While Waiting
While awaiting "Dune: Awakening's" availability, there is an experience that fans may enjoy for the time being. This is because Funcom has released the "Dune: Awakening" Character Creator & Benchmark modes, which offer the essential preparations for the game's release.
In Character Creator mode, players may take the "Gom Jabbar" test that will determine the roles available for them to undertake, including the Swordmaster, Bene Gesserit, Mentat, and Trooper. Users may also create their characters here, and it comes with fine-tuning features that will tweak it more to their preferences. Choices made under this mode will be the basis for their character's starting abilities once the game drops.
On the other hand, there is the Benchmark mode that will help users determine if their current setup or system is capable of running "Dune: Awakening's" gameplay. This is a more accurate way to know if a system can run the game instead of looking at the requirements sheet.
Players may now download the Character Creator & Benchmark Mode via "Dune: Awakening's" Steam page. Completing both guarantees an exclusive Frameblade knife skin that can be redeemed.
