Forspoken finally has a release date, well sort of, and it’s in spring 2022. This is the first title to be released by Luminous Productions, a studio under Square Enix. The game is set to be launched on PlayStation 5 and PC.
In addition to a release date, a new story trailer has been revealed which shows more details about Frey. You can watch the trailer below:
If you didn’t have time to watch the trailer, it gives everyone a closer look at the magic-infused combat and dynamic movement, both of which play an important role in the gameplay. Over the course of her journey across Athia, Frey learns about harnessing different types of magic along with being able to cast powerful spells. Her journey also takes her to various kinds of environments that she can utilize.
The Cast
The trailer also shows that helping Frey is a magical sentient bracelet named “Cuff,” which is voiced by Jonathan Cake (Stargirl). There is also Tanta Sila, the strongest matriarch in Athia. She is voiced by Janina Gavankar (True Blood).
Other voice actors revealed are Keala Settle (The Greatest Showman) and Monica Barbaro (Top Gun: Maverick). They play Johedy and Auden, respectively, who assist Frey with her journey.
The Writers
Luminous Productions revealed that the original concept of the game was conceived by Gary Whitta (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), who then collaborated with Amy Hennig (Uncharted series) to develop the story concept. Eventually, the task of Lead Writers went to Allison Rymer (Shadowhunters) and Todd Stashwick (Devil Inside).
In a statement, Rymer shared that writing for the game has been a wonderful experience. She added that she is excited for players to meet and connect with Frey, a character who's not only strong and complex but also very relatable. She went on to say that she's thrilled for people to experience the story they made.
The Music
Like movies and TV shows, music is just as important in video games. The game’s score was composed by Bear McCreary (God of War 2018) and TV series (The Walking Dead), and Garry Schyman (Bioshock series). The score the two came up with gave the game that unconventional tone.
Talking about the game, both McCreary and Schyman said that they were excited to work together. The two added that when they first read the script, they were moved by Frey’s dynamic character along with the contrasting themes of modern and fantasy.
So what do you think? Excited about this one?
