The Joker gas canisters in Fortnite do not work in the same manner as the Bat Signals. That is primarily because they do not spawn in the exact same locations each match. Fortunately for you, they are pretty much the same with Vending Machines in a sense that their spawn points are fixed.
In case you did not know, the canisters are a reference to one of the villain's classic weapons: the Smilex gas. The latter is capable of killing its victim in an eerie way of laughing. That is why victims have a grin on their face when they die.
Keep in mind that the Joker gas canisters are not reusable like the Bat Signals. So, if another player is already successful in defusing a canister, it will no longer be available for you and other players. Do not worry, though – there are a handful of places where you can expect the canisters to appear. Some players are saying they found them in Lucky Landing, while others mentioned the likes of the Salty Springs and the new Gotham City Rift Zone.
Of course, these are not just the locations where you can find the Joker’s gas canisters. Just remember that you will only be defusing three of them. That said, we strongly suggest looking around at these areas found in the map below.
Once you are successful in locating a Joker gas canister, all you have to do is interact with it so you can defuse it. Based on the description of the challenge, your goal is to defuse the canisters in at least three named locations; otherwise, the process will not work. And as soon as you are done defusing them, you will be able to obtain the 10 Battle Stars and be one step closer to acquiring the Catwing Glider.
It is worth noting that Fortnite's Batman crossover event kicked off over the weekend. It brought a variety of Batman-inspired content to the game. Not only are there skins and cosmetics inspired by the Caped Crusader, there will also be a set of limited-time challenges to complete, which will unlock other Batman-themed rewards.
The Batman challenges in Fortnite are expected to last until October 1. The Batman skins and other cosmetics, on the other hand, will be available until October 6 in the in-game store. This will be the exact same day Fortnite's 10th Season is expected to close its doors
