It’s been years since a new episode of Futurama was released, but we’ll be able to get a dose of Fry, Bender and the gang in the upcoming mobile game Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow. Check out the launch trailer, starring notable scientists like Bill Nye, Neil DeGrasse Tyson and… George Takei?
Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will release for iOS and Android devices on June 29. If you were worried about the game matching the tone of the show, creator and executive producer Matt Groening, executive producer David X. Cohen and a number of original Futurama writers have all contributed to the finished project. That sounds like this isn’t just a cash-grab, but instead a game made by and for Futurama fans.
While few details about the game were given, it is mentioned in a press release that Nye, Tyson, Takei and Stephen Hawking will all appear in the game as playable characters, each with his own unique storyline. The trailer also gives some glimpses into the gameplay, which seems to feature RPG-like turn-based combat. There are also shots of the Planet Express ship moving along a path of levels and footage of players making story-based decisions.
Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow will be free to download, but will likely include in-app purchases. According to the glimpses we’ve gotten in the trailer, real money can probably be spent on in-game money, character health and whatever that bar is that shows a piece of pizza.
If you want to download the game as soon as it is available on Android, there is an option to pre-register on the Google Play store. This will send out a notification once the game is live and ready to be installed.
If you just like the show, there will be new pieces of original Futurama animation releasing over the next few days as well.
