Samsung has finally confirmed its rugged smartphone, the Galaxy S7 Active, wasn’t as water resistant as advertised. The smartphone is intended to have an IP68 water resistance rating, which should protect against a five-foot submersion for 30 minutes. However, Consumer Reports revealed in early July that two Galaxy S7 Active models tested in its lab could not withstand being placed in water.
The devices were completely non-functional after being submerged in a tank of water pressurized to 2.12 pounds-per-square-inch for 30 minutes, according to Consumer Reports . Samsung responded in a statement that users need only try out the Galaxy S7 Active for themselves to realize its water resistance capability.
Samsung has now released a new statement to the publication, admitting there was a fault in one of its parts that lead to the failure of the Galaxy S7 Active after water tests.
“We found a problem in the production line that we were able to correct,” Samsung PR Manager Philip Berne told Consumer Reports . He also added the issue has been addressed and Galaxy S7 Active handsets now shipping should have no further problems. Handsets already in stores are reportedly being removed from inventory.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 Active released in June , exclusively on the AT&T network.
