Gamescom is happening throughout the week, and as such gamers can expect a ton of new announcements surrounding highly anticipated titles, as well as new releases from publishers and developers. Nothing beats the excitement surrounding fresh news on upcoming titles, and these are at the center of the five-day major gaming event at the Koelmnesse in Germany. Be sure to stay tuned with us the whole week as we bring you the latest from Gamescom 2019 in the form of the latest trailers, announcements, news and other information drops on all the newest games hitting the market.
First revealed during Nintendo’s E3 2019 Direct presentation, the highly anticipated Switch release of CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has had its release date announced during the Opening Night Live presentation for Gamescom 2019. After much speculation, which even drew some doubts from yours truly, it seems like port developer Saber Interactive actually did it, with the release date for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition set for October 15.
The announcement, of course, would be empty without any footage for the game, and CD Projekt RED made that happen with a trailer as well as over 40 minutes of gameplay footage of the critically-acclaimed action adventure on the handheld console. Check both out below to see just what we can expect from this port that was nothing short of a miracle, to say the least.
What surprised me the most is that despite expecting a ton of downgrades from this version, CD Projekt RED and Saber managed to actually port The Witcher 3 on the Switch in a commendably smooth package. There are some hiccups here and there, and I saw some stutters when Geralt entered a fight or something else that would cause processes to spike, but other than that it looks like the game will be running pretty smoothly on the Switch. The downgrades are bearable, and nothing stuck out as being terribly done. I can easily say that it matches what you would expect from a Low graphics preset on the PC.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition will be released both digitally and through retail, and will include the base game plus its two major expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. It will be available for purchase on October 15.
Be sure to stick around for more news on the latest happenings in Gamescom all throughout the week.
