Despite several several leaks and rumors circulating about Google’s upcoming HTC-made Nexus devices, codenamed Marlin and Sailfish, few details about the smartphones are certain. Rumors Google could release one high-end and one mid-range device have morphed into the tech giant releasing two premium smartphones with price tags to match.
According to a recent leak from Nexus Blog , Marlin will sell for $599, while Sailfish will sell for $449, putting both devices in a pricier category than their Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X predecessors launched last year.
In 2015, Google released two smartphones with USB Type-C ports simultaneously for the first time. The mid-range Nexus 5X was available in 16GB and 32GB models, selling for $379 and $429 respectively, while the high-end Nexus 6P was available in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models, selling for $499, $549 and $659 respectively.
Marlin and Sailfish, however, are both expected to feature 32GB of internal storage as their base models, which may justify the price hike. While Marlin is expected to be higher end of the two devices, Sailfish may also see some major upgrades, which may take it out of the mid-range category.
The device is expected to feature a 5.2 Full HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip, 4GB of RAM, 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera, a 2,770mAh battery, a USB Type-C port and Android Nougat.
Marlin is expected to feature a 5.5-inch Quad HD display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chip, 4GB of RAM, a 12-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front camera and a 3,450mAh battery, a USB Type-C port and Android Nougat.
Google recently released the official software for Android 7.0 Nougat, which is now available for devices including the Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X. The LG V20 smartphone , will be announced next Tuesday as the first Android smartphone running Android Nougat. Marlin and Sailfish are expected to be announced in September and released in October.
