Combat won’t prove too much of a problem for the first dozen or so hours of Gravity Rush 2. Most of the early Nevi don’t deal too much damage, so you’re biggest obstacle will be timed challenges, rather than a lack of HP. But things take a hard turn toward the difficult once you approach end of Gravity Rush 2 ’s second chapter.
After overthrowing the evil Jirga Para Lhao Council, get ready for the fight of your life against a Lost City. Because of course a giant, murderous, flying sky metropolis had to appear right when the class war was won. Lost Cities always have such bad timing, showing up right after a revolution overthrows a cabal of rich oligarchs. Figures.
And now not only do you have to build a new, socialist system of government from the ground up, but you also have to defeat an evil city, the embodiment of capitalism run amok.
But how do you kill a city?
Story Mission Guide - Lost City Boss Fight
At mission’s beginning you’ll be just across from the Lost City, which is on an approach vector with Syd aboard the Bismalia and other innocent bystanders of Jirga Para Lhao. Blast off toward the left arm (it’ll have highlighted objective markers on it), Raven will follow you.
Ignore all other Nevi. Sure, kill anything that gets in your way, but you’ll mainly want to focus on the weird Nevi anemones opening and closing on the surface of the Lost City’s arm.
Your goal is to destroy the red weak point inside the petals of the Nevi embedded on the arm of the Lost City. At first it looks like your biggest danger will be timing. Squeezing Kat inside to gravity kick (square button) the weak point will often result in a good hit, but also a significant chunk of HP lost when the petals collapse back on Kat. Unlike most Nevi encounters in Gravity Rush 2 — whose strikes are often more about derailing your own blows then doing heavy damage — it’s easy to lose all your health to these attacks.
The solution is simple: switch to Lunar. Lunar kicks will allow you to teleport inside the petals, strike a blow or two, then float out without getting damaged.
But that’s not the biggest roadblock to beating the Lost City.
The biggest mistake commonly made against the Lost City boss is starting from the tip of the arm and working inward. The nearest weak point from the mission starting position is just at the tip of the Lost City’s arm. It’s natural to make a beeline for that to open your attack against the boss. But even if you succeed, you’re in grave danger of missing the other weak points along the arm.
One of the major fail conditions that you might encounter repeatedly is taking too long and/or winding up too far away from the Lost City’s arm. This triggers an instant loss and you’ll be starting over from the beginning.
Because the immense, city-sized arm is moving, it’s very easy for it to slip away from you. Fly your hardest and you’ll barely be able to keep up with the swinging arm. The solution is easy, attack the innermost targets first.
Go for the Lost City’s armpit, basically.
Because you’ll be attacking at the center of movement, rather than at the end of a fast-moving arc, it’s much much easier to keep up with the Lost City and stay focused on the weak point objectives. And, because Raven is busy attacking other points, you’ll never need to take down those weak points moving quickly at the arm’s end. Take out 3-4 of the innermost weak spots and you’ll subdue the Lost City with ease.
So, to recap, here’s how to beat the Mission 11 boss, the Lost City:
- Avoid Nevi
- Switch to the Lunar outfit to avoid damage
- Attack the weak points closest to the city’s center first
Now you’re ready for the Lost City’s interior and the even more difficult fight against the Lost City’s gravity engine.
