Samsung has filed a copyright claim on a Youtube video that shows a Grand Theft Auto V mod where the sticky mod has been replaced with a Samsung Galaxy Note 7, currently making headlines for smoking and exploding. Boo, Samsung, no sense of humor?
The GTA 5 Samsung Galaxy Note 7 bomb mod is still available here, and there are still plenty of videos showing the mod in action, too:
The GTA 5 mod has been active since Oct. 1. You can change the device’s wallpaper and phone cover, but the mod is purely cosmetic.
If Samsung really did issue a copyright claim to get this video taken down, it seems like a colossal waste of time, not to mention bogus. Seeing Youtubers get hit with illegitimate copyright claim notices isn’t fun - it’s like watching the little guy get beat up over and over again by an automated system that’s not really there for him.
As for the device in question, Samsung has ceased production on its Galaxy Note 7 line and the disaster may be responsible for the end of Samsung’s Galaxy Note line. No wonder they’re a little sensitive right now.
But with a bevy of other Youtube videos showing the GTA 5 mod in action and a slew of problems on their plate, Samsung has better things to do than chase down hilarious GTA 5 mod videos on Youtube. So let’s back away slowly from abusing the copyright claim function and get to work on those exploding phones, right?
