Fans who couldn’t make it to San Diego Comic Con are out of luck when it comes to watching the two clips James Gunn brought to the Guardians of The Galaxy panel, which included the reveal of Kurt Russell as Star Lord’s dad – Ego. To make bad news even worse, Collider reports Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige strongly implied the first official Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer will release around the same time Doctor Strange hits theaters Nov. 4 over two months from now.
Feige also spoke on everyone’s favorite character, Groot. He said baby Groot will still have all of Groot’s memories and his relationship with Rocket will continue to be a big part of the movie.
“When it comes to a Guardians of the Galaxy film, a James Gunn script, it’s not just about the funny, it’s not just about the action, it’s about the heart. And the amount of heart that you get out of this trash panda raccoon and now this little twig baby Groot is actually awe-inspiring. It is amazing what he’s done with those two characters.”
Responding to a fan question on Facebook, Gunn also confirmed the Infinity Stones will play zero part in the sequel. We may have to wait for Infinity War in 2018 when a few Guardians team up with the Avengers to stop the Infinity Gauntlet wielding big bad, Thanos.
While James Gunn said we may not see the same footage that released at San Diego Comic Con “anytime soon,” this is all the more reason to get excited about Doctor Strange.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premieres May 5, 2017.
