IO Interactive recently changed their option on Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 levels not being free-to-play for previous owners on Hitman 3. With the new changes from the dev team, all levels in Hitman 1 and Hitman 2 are now playable for free if you already purchased the latest game. “We are continuing to work on a solution with our partners to allow PC players who own Hitman 1 or Hitman 2 to import locations from those games into Hitman 3 at no additional cost," stated IO Interactive in a tweet.
This addition won’t be included with the launch of Hitman 3 and will take a few weeks to rollout. However, Hitman 1 Game of the Year Access Pass will be free-to-own for all PC players who have purchased Hitman 3 within the first 10 days of release. This is actually a step in the right direction and more developers have to follow this so we can get more content within a single game.
Also, Hitman 3 being an Epic exclusive game makes it more challenging for developers to import the other levels over and check players’ progression. The transfer system might be a bit confusing, but they are looking into it and will release more details soon.
Hitman 3 will be available on January 20, 2021, for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, Stadia, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Players will also receive a free next-generation upgrade for no extra cost. This applies to disc-based games too, as the older disc just has to be inserted into the next-generation console to get the free upgrade.
So, what are your thoughts on the change IO Interactive has in store for the players? Do you think more developers should do this? Personally, I think it could help the player base to expand, especially in the multiplayer titles. Whatever your thoughts may be, let us know in the comments below.
