For fans wanting to get their hands on the much-awaited game Hogwarts Legacy, they will have to keep waiting for now. That is because Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has delayed the title yet again.
Developed by Avalanche Software, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Hogwarts Legacy – based on the popular Harry Potter series – are reportedly delayed to April 4, 2023. The Nintendo Switch port, on the other hand, is slated to launch come July 25, 2023.
The upcoming title’s official Twitter account made the announcement alongside the date reveal of the Switch release. Unfortunately, no exact reason was revealed as to why the current-generation version was pushed back.
It is worth noting that versions of Hogwarts Legacy on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series are unaffected, still scheduled to be released on February 10.
"The team is looking forward to bringing you the game and we want to deliver the best possible game experience across all platforms," the tweet said.
This is the second delay for the wizarding title as it was originally announced to launch during this year’s holiday period but later got pushed back, and finally, to 2023. Interestingly, developer Avalanche Software has never shied away from sharing different elements of the upcoming game, showcasing the Hogsmeade quest, the dark magic surrounding Hogwarts, and the flying broom sections.
Starting February 7, fans and players alike who buy the Deluxe Edition of Hogwarts Legacy for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, or PC will get access to at least 72 hours of early access to jumpstart their adventure in the wizarding world. This early access does not apply to the delayed versions though.
Hogwarts Legacy is an upcoming open-world RPG set in the 1800s. Players will play as custom-created students of Hogwarts. The game takes place a century before the events set in the Harry Potter books and movies. Players will be able to craft potions, learn tons of spells, and make friends as they embark on a dangerous adventure in hopes of unraveling the truth of the wizarding world.
Warner Bros. already noted that Hogwarts Legacy is not a new story written by author JK Rowling. The two parties, however, collaborated and made sure that the game’s story would remain true to the author’s original version.
