You’ve played hundreds of hours worth of Skyrim in your lifetime. You’re impatient and want to get to the good stuff. We got you. Here’s a few tips on how to level up fast in Skyrim Special Edition early on in the game.

Tip: Invest in Restoration

Before you get started, make sure the first few levels you spend raising your Health and Magicka. Potions and healing items aren’t hard to come by, but you will run out in the first few hours of the game. The first Magic item you should invest in is Restoration. Everything else is up to your desired playstyle. Using Restoration to heal instead of potions also levels up the skill.

1. How to level up Combat

Leveling up combat is pretty easy. First, you want to find the Warrior stone outside of Riverrun. Enable it. After this, you should head to Whiterun. Your weapons options are pretty limited, so we recommend doing the Dragonstone mission the Jarl of Whiterun asks you complete. In the cave, you’ll find decent start weapons.

Anyway, loot some heavy armor, your desired weapon, a shield and equip them. Don’t be afraid of taking some light damage. It will help you level up. So if you’re swarmed by a pack of wolves, use your Restoration spell and let them attack you for a bit. Avoid fast travel and kill everything you encounter. Out of all the skills, leveling up combat quickly should be the easiest. There’s not much more to it.

Tip: Explore the Whiterun Area

We get it, Whiterun isn’t the most exciting in Skyrim, but there are lots of easy bounty missions you can knock out early on for the experience. Go to the tavern and ask about rumors. Easy-peasy.

2. How to level up Magic

Destruction

  • This is dependent on your play style, but the first thing you want to do no matter what is equip the Mage stone. If you want to level up Destruction spells, you’ll have to make your way to the Dark Brotherhood quest by talking to Aventus Aretino in Windhelm. Once you’ve completed Aventus’ mission, the Brotherhood will find you and force you to kill one of three people. Don’t kill them; attack them with Destruction spells. Do it over and over reap the benefits.

Conjuring

  • First, learn the Soul Trap spell. You can purchase it from Farengar in Dragonsreach. Go out of town and find a wild animal. Kill the animal and trap its soul. Keep casting the spell on the dead animal. You’ll gain a lot of experience in a short time.

Restoration

  • Heal yourself. When you level up, invest in the Fast Heal option under Restoration. This will help boost your Restoration skills.

Tip: Be A Bookworm

Go through bookcases and tables to see if there are any books lying around. You’ll stumble across things that will boost your skills. Magic books are typically a bright color and have a symbol on the cover. Reading books will also unlock fun missions and areas to explore.

3. Crafting/Smithing

First, equip the Warrior Stone and get some sleep. Be sure to keep a woodcutter’s axe and pickaxe on your at all times. You want to mine like crazy to increase your Smithing skills. Once you have ores are your disposal, you’ll be able to upgrade weapons and armor, as well as create jewelry. Upgrading items, even if they’re of no use to you, will increase your Crafting and Smithing abilities.

Tip: Sell! Sell! Sell!

Want to level up your speech skills? Loot bodies and sells the items you don’t want. Interacting with vendors is a great way to see a boost in your speech skills, even if the prices suck early on in the game. If you spend a lot of time crafting, you might as well get some money out of your creations while you’re at it.
