CES 2017 is expected to feature several innovations in virtual reality. Unfortunately, new products from HTC won’t be among the showcased technology, Upload VR reported Wednesday. HTC confirmed to the blog that it won’t be announcing a second generation virtual reality headset at the Las Vegas trade show in January.
“There is no truth to the rumor of launching Vive 2 at CES 2017,” HTC said in a statement. “At Vive, we are laser focused on building out a strong and growing ecosystem for current and future Vive owners so they can experience the best room-scale VR with the most compelling content available.”
Rumors surfaced following a report from the Taiwanese publication DigiTimes, which stated HTC would announce a wireless model of the HTC Vive. While the Vive is one of the top VR headsets on the market, critics have noted its heavy cords can sometimes hinder gameplay. A wireless headset is among the more desired features for a Vive refresh.
HTC made a splash with the Vive at CES 2016, where it demoed the developer model HTC Vive Pre. The VR headset became available to the public in April.
