The Last Of Us 2 is likely several years away from its release date, but there’s a lot happening at Naughty Dog’s motion capture studio. Tweets from director Neil Druckmann and Ellie’s Ashley Johnson offer a brief peek behind the curtain.
Starting With Druckmann, on Wednesday he tweeted this photo with Westworld’s Shannon Woodward. The Elsie actress announced her ties to the project last week, and this week she was captured twirling a fake machete. Druckmann joked he was “a little uncomfortable with the ease” she took to the blade.
We still don’t know anything about Woodward’s character, but we’d guess she uses that machete at some point. That’s not exactly surprising considering she’s living in a zombie apocalypse, though.
Druckmann expressed a similar level of comedic concern about his Westworld co-writer Halley Gross. “Not gonna lie,” he tweeted as he snapped a photo of Gross brandishing a model rifle, "my co-writer scares me.”
Last in the docket, Ashley Johnson snapped a quick selfie with her Joel co-star Troy Baker from the Naughty Dog set. As of Friday, she was “back in LA shooting some video game. I think it has zombies in it,” she quipped. Baker is, of course, hiding behind her.
We learned of Joel and Ellie’s continued narrative involvement through the game’s PSX announcement trailer last year, but, the more we see the pair, the more significant their roles appear. Several fan theories suggest Joel may die at some point in the plot. The question that remains is how deep in the story that potentially devastating event will be.
We’ve also posted theories linking Ellie’s greater mission to take down the Fireflies to Greek mythology.
The Last Of Us 2 reportedly won’t release any time before 2019. When it does arrive, it will be a PlayStation exclusive.
