Leaked screenshots of Siri’s integration into the next generation of Mac OS X — rumored to be called macOS — are currently floating around the Apple-centric blogosphere after being published by MacRumors.
The screenshots showcase the three ways Apple is supposedly planning to implement Siri into macOS: via the dock, via the menu bar and via the “Hey Siri” voice activation feature seen currently with the iPad Pro and iPhone 6s iOS device generations.
MacRumors say they received the screenshots from “a source who has provided us with reliable information about Apple's software plans in the past.”
The only problem with Siri coming to macOS – and it’s really more of a PR problem – is that if Apple plans to make Siri integration a key selling feature for the upcoming update, then the company better do some major work behind the scenes to improve Siri’s ability to receive dictation and understand natural language commands.
At the moment, Siri pales in comparison to Microsoft’s Cortana and Google’s newly unveiled Google Assistant voice-controlled personal assistants in terms of functionality. As one redditor pointed out, Siri falters on contextual conversations. This means that Siri doesn’t understand what a user means when they ask “What about the Warriors?” after asking "What's the score of the Spurs game?" immediately before.
You’ll have to wait until June 13 for WWDC to see if Apple reveals any backend improvements for Siri however. They’re expected to announce major updates to iOS, Mac OS X, watchOS and tvOS.
