Art for the long rumored Mario and Rabbids crossover for the Nintendo Switch has leaked online and confirms the title will release this August, following a formal introduction at E3 in June.
Comicbook.com reports the official title of the Switch game is Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle and after vetting the leak through their own Ubisoft source, they have shared the full key art, which can you see below.
The Mario + Rabbids art leak popped up online before it was quickly deleted. However, nothing is ever temporary on the internet, and a fan was able to grab a piece of the artwork and posted it on their account, which you can see below.
UPDATE: Nintendo World Report is reporting some details surrounding the Mario and Rabbids crossover. Here's what they know.
- The exploration is estimated at 35% of the game with combat making up 65%.
- Each of the four worlds are “twisted” Mario worlds filled with Easter eggs.
- The combat includes weapons, with Mario and the team being able to use guns.
- The characters that can be used are: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, and Rabbids dressed up as them.
- There will be the ability to local co-op with another player.
- The game is estimated to be around 20 hours long.
Kotaku reportedly received art assets to the Nintendo Switch game and confirmed some of the older rumors/reports about the title. The art provided to Kotaku showed off Mario and the crew wielding guns that shoot laser beams, which the above key art proves was true.
The Kotaku report also stated that Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle will have eight playable characters including Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach and four Rabbids dressed up as Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Peach. Again, this is all shown in the leaked key art.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was first reported by Laura Kate Dale, who even predicted a possible September 2017 release date back in January, before the official Nintendo Switch reveal event. Since then there have been little to no news regarding the rumored Mario and Rabbids crossover until this sudden report.
There were no reported big releases for the Nintendo Switch in August, leading many to speculate that an unannounced title would fill that slot. Reports put the Mario and Rabbids crossover in that release date window and this leak confirms it.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is reportedly some sort of RPG, but outside of that there aren’t many details about gameplay.
Of course, until Nintendo or Ubisoft outright confirms the existence of the game, which probably won’t happen until E3, we won’t know many more details about the game. Nintendo’s E3 presentation will take place on June 13 at 12 p.m. EST, so you can expect to learn more then and during Ubisoft’s presentation on June 12 at 4 p.m. EST.
