Marvel Comics has been teasing its upcoming event, Legacy, since June. Now a brand new trailer further explains what comic book readers should expect from the company in September.
In the trailer, both Marvel Comics Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso and SVP of Publishing Tom Brevoort explain what Legacy is and how it will encompass all of the company’s history. Check out the Marvel Legacy teaser trailer below.
Starting from the new Avengers of 1 Million BC, Legacy will encompass the entire line and history of Marvel Comics, while also setting up future stories and mysteries. Alonso and Brevoort promise that certain characters that were gone will return, while also showing fans that heroes with similar code names (like Peter Parker and Miles Morales) can share the same space.
Marvel will plant the seeds for what is going to happen down the line with the Marvel Legacy one-shot coming in September. Brevoort even claims that events in the one-shot will be referred to and talked about for years.
During the Legacy era in Marvel Comics, the numberings of comics will change, but not in the usual “return to #1” format. Marvel will add up all of the issues that certain characters appeared in and add them up to create a new numbering.
Callbacks to old characters and stories will be a staple of Legacy, to celebrate the 50-plus years of the publisher. The Marvel Legacy trailer ends with the tease that an icon will return and that it will be an “absolute must-read” for Marvel fans.
Marvel Legacy will follow the controversial Secret Empire event storyline that saw Captain America/Steve Rogers become an Agent of Hydra. He brings Hydra to the forefront of world domination before being stopped in issue #10, which dropped Aug. 30.
Marvel Legacy #1 from writer Jason Aaron and artist Esa Ribic will hit stores Sept. 27.
