Mass Effect: Andromeda had a rough launch, with mediocre reviews, bugs and bad press aplenty. We previously learned from sources close to the game’s development, via Kotaku, that the development team at BioWare Montreal had been scaled back dramatically since launch, and now we’re learning there will be no single-player DLC made for the game. None at all.
This information also comes from anonymous sources talking to Kotaku. They claim the reception of Andromeda has led BioWare to transfer employees away to different projects like Star Wars Battlefront 2, Anthem and the new Dragon Age game. The sources do say a small team will remain in place to update the multiplayer side of things, as well as work on patches for the main game. Unfortunately, this means that EA and BioWare have also put a stop to any potential sequels that were in the works as well.
Of course, plans can change at any time. EA and BioWare’s decision not to continue with the game right now doesn’t mean Mass Effect as a franchise is totally dead. It sounds like the company is cutting its losses with Andromeda and focusing its efforts on upcoming games. Hopefully, this will lead to these other games becoming better products.
This is a huge departure from how BioWare has operated since the first Mass Effect game was released. All previous entries in the franchise, along with all the Dragon Age games, have seen considerable post-launch support in the form of large-scale DLC offerings and smaller bonus content. It’s a shame the mixed reception for Andromeda has been enough to scare BioWare away from even trying to add more to their latest story.
Here at Player. One (formerly iDigitalTimes) we thought Mass Effect: Andromeda definitely couldn’t compare to the highs found in Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, but was certainly entertaining and enjoyable enough to recommend playing. It’s a shame Andromeda is seemingly coming to a close so soon, and we hope EA and BioWare consider more Mass Effect in the future.
So what do you think? Are you also upset with the lack of support for Andromeda from BioWare? Do you think this is the right decision? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
