The latest Mass Effect: Andromeda video is here, showing off all sorts of combat. Everything from player movement to weapons and biotic powers are on display, along with upgrades and customization options.
Mass Effect: Andromeda Guns
There will be four main types of guns in Mass Effect: Andromeda: pistols, shotguns, sniper rifles and assault rifles. Players can also equip different melee weapons if that works with his or her playstyle. There will be large, heavy damage dealing weapons like hammers as well as small, quick weapons like daggers. There will be no class restrictions for weapons, like in previous Mass Effect games, so feel free to use whatever weapons you wish.
Speaking of older games, Mass Effect: Andromeda is embracing both ammo types found in the series. There will be some weapons that use a traditional clip and bullet system, and others that will use the cooldown effects like in the original Mass Effect.
There will also be new plasma-based weapons. The weapons in the video include a heat-seaking gun that has a slower rate of fire, and a weapon that became more powerful the longer you charged the shot.
Mass Effect: Andromeda Skills
Skills in Mass Effect: Andromeda are broken up into three categories: combat, Biotic and tech. Similar to the weapons, there are no class restrictions on skills, so players are fully allowed to craft the playstyle they want.
Combat skills increase prowess with weapons and gear. These skills are what the “Soldier” class were composed of in the original Mass Effect trilogy. This means you’ll find skills such as Concussive Shot, weapon skills and grenade unlocks.
Biotic powers return to Mass Effect in Andromeda and look more devastating than before. All the classics like Push, Pull, Charge and Nova all return, along with a few new abilities such as Lance. Because skills are free of class restrictions, even if you wanted to be overall a tech or combat player, you’ll still be able to get any biotic power.
Tech skills allow for use of experimental technology and strategic boosts to you and your squadmates. A new ability for Tech users are the flamethrower and cryo beam. These make you look like a Skyrim character, shooting out flames or freezing blasts straight from your palm. Other abilities include the assault turret, Overload, Incinerate and more.
Even though players will have access to all of these skills, only three skills can be active at a time. It is possible to set up certain playstyles as your favorites, so you’ll be able to swap out abilities on the fly. This will come in handy to change between tech and biotic skills depending on if the situation has armored or shielded enemies. Armor is resistant to some weapons and abilities, while biotic abilities aren’t as effective against shields.
