From the latest news updates on Bioware’s website this week, Bioware has provided short bios for Mass Effect: Andromeda squadmates Lieutenant Cora Harper, a powerful biotic commando, and Liam Kosta, a crisis response specialist with civilian tactical training.
Cora’s bio is short but promising: “Cora joined the Systems Alliance to train her powerful biotic talents, eventually transferring to an asari commando unit before joining the Andromeda Initiative as Alec Ryder's second-in-command,” it states. “Professional and loyal, Cora knows the rules well enough to bend them if necessary, lending huntress tactics and her biotic strength to the Pathfinder's mission.”
Her jazzy quote is, “When your biotics are honed into huntress-grade weapons… people can be weird about it." The huntress bit is a reference to an asari battle passive that increases damage, while her ability is, of course, the famous Biotic Charge.
A cosplay character kit for Cora is also available, showing off the precise gradations of her ombre and exactly where those rubbery royal blue stripes on her grayscale uniform begin and end. Unlike Peebee, her midriff isn’t peeking enticingly out, but fans of Miranda Lawson’s famous assets may find some encouragement in Cora’s vacuum-sealed suit details. We also don’t get a close look at Cora’s shotgun, which makes sense, as her powerful biotics are her calling card.
The other character we meet is Liam Kosta, whose bio states, “A crisis response specialist with civilian tactical training, Liam learned of the Andromeda Initiative after meeting former Alliance personnel at a ‘post-hostility relief action.’ His multi-disciplinary skills set him apart, and Liam was hand-picked to support the Pathfinder team. He’s an idealist, willing to take risks for the good of the Initiative.”
His quote is a reflection of his idealism: “I believed in a new beginning. Still do. I have to. We're in it.” He is described as a “close range fighter” whose favorite weapon is “overclocked dual omni-blades” and whose jump jet allows him to rush straight towards his enemy. His ability, Havoc Strike, uses those omni-blades to “stun enemies and prime them for combo detonations.”
All in all, sounds like a cross between a non-biotic Vanguard and a classic dual-wielder. Since those dual-wielders are usually relegated to rogue classes (and tactics), his Havoc Strike and jump jet point to some exciting tactical possibilities.
A character kit for Liam is available as well, revealing that his pants are slightly baggy rather than vacuum-sealed (no fair), and that his striped suit bears the same Alliance blues as Cora’s. Bioware’s effort to give Liam a natural hairstyle that isn’t “full 70’s fro” or “bald” is noted and appreciated.
