'Master Of None': Aziz Ansari's Netflix Hit Picks Up Four 2016 Emmy Nominations

Comedian, romance guru and occasional New York Times op-ed contributor Aziz Ansari has four great reasons to call today Treat Yo’ Self 2016. His Netflix series, Master of None, has earned four Emmy nominations in major categories, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

Master of None garnered four nods in some of the most hotly contended categories: Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series and Outstanding Comedy Series.

Ansari will be competing with Anthony Anderson (Black-ish), Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth), William H. Macy (Shameless), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley) and Jeffrey Tambor (Transparent) for the lead comedy actor prize. For Outstanding Comedy Series, Master of None faces off against Veep (HBO), Transparent (Amazon), Silicon Valley (HBO), Modern Family (ABC), Black-ish (ABC) and fellow Netflix contender Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Master of None Season 2 won’t be coming out until next year. In February, Ansari posted a series of photos to Instagram from Italy, hinting the show would follow through on Dev’s decision to take culinary classes abroad after his sudden breakup with Rachel in the Season 1 finale. In May, Ansari tweeted Season 2 would be coming in April 2017, but the release window was later retracted by Netflix.

In the meantime, you can watch Season 1 of Master of None in its entirety on Netflix. The 2016 Emmys, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will air on ABC Sunday, Sept. 18 at 8 p.m. EDT.
