Metal Heads is a party game where up to eight people can have fun playing different mini-games. As the name implies, there’s some metal music playing in the background as well.

Anyway, the game has received a new update recently that brings a ton of bug fixes and quality of life improvements.

New Content

A new mini-game called “Dead Still” is now available. Unlike other mini-games, this one is slower-paced but don’t let that fool you as it is challenging nevertheless. The idea here is to traverse the area slowly, making sure that you do not move when the deadly machine is active. Otherwise, you will get squashed in the process.

The developer, Nathan Francis of Otreum Games, may add a few things in the future that may help with balancing. As of now, if this new mini-game is not challenging enough, you could try it in survival mode.

Aside from the new mini-game, Francis has made it possible for you to change input types easily. What this means is that if you’ve pressed ENTER on the keyboard, then you plug in a controller, you’ll be able to control the first character using either of them.

The developer has acknowledged that there’s a lot of polishing to do. Currently, there is an issue where hitting START on the controller would accidentally join a new character instead of pausing the game. Hopefully, this will get fixed soon.

Update Highlights

GENERAL
  • Clients can now join multiple gamepads again online, so the host could have 4 controllers and a client could also have 4 controllers
  • Fixed an issue where the servers and client's did not have correct information on players, in particular after they had disconnected and reconnected during a mini-game, and when returning to the lobby, those players would not be lit up/active/joined, and could not do anything
GAMEPLAY
  • Tap Out player velocity per button press increases as the camera increases, so that the player can keep up with the camera
  • Put in preventative measures to stop more than 8 controllers from joining. However, there currently isn’t a limit on how many clients can join the server
  • Found a major fault within player’s where the device was not being set correctly, thus causing the flow of other problems. Some other variables had a similar issue
UI
  • UI elements are now device-dependent, which means if you’re using an Xbox controller, Xbox buttons will appear, if you’re using a keyboard, keyboard buttons will appear etc.
  • Mouse cursor should no longer get set to the top left corner of the screen when a new player joins or a controller hits the start button
  • Mouse cursor now scales its movement based on the window size, not the resolution
