Mortal Kombat 11 revealed that it is currently testing a feature that's going to allow crossplay between players using PlayStation 4 and those using Xbox One. Dubbed as "Krossplay," which is not really a surprise, the feature lets players from different consoles be put into the same matchmaking pool for Online Kasual game modes. Players from these two consoles also have the option to manually join the same designated Krossplay Online Rooms in order to go against each other.
As mentioned, Krossplay currently supports PS4 and Xbox One. However, the exact timing of when this feature is going to be available in the game has yet to be confirmed.
In order to activate Krossplay, players need to go to the Online menu in-game and then highlight Kasual modes. Then at the top-right of the screen there should be an option to toggle the feature off and on. Once the feature is toggled on, players can now play against those using another console in two ways:
- Whenever players matchmake in Online Kasual modes, the game now looks for the best match across prospective PlayStation 4 and Xbox players.
- Designated Krossplay Online Rooms now provide a central location for PS4 and Xbox One players to manually meet up and fight against other players on opposite platforms in Online Kasual game modes.
- Friends on opposite platforms must coordinate outside of the game ecosystem, then meet up in a specific Krossplay Online Room to play against each other.
It should be noted that any progress on a player's Mortal Kombat 11 profile is exclusive to the platform and account the game is initially played on. Players cannot transfer Mortal Kombat 11 progress, unlocks, or purchases between platforms.
In addition to PS4 and Xbox One, Mortal Kombat 11 was also released for the PC, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia. There is no word yet if crossplay is going to be available for the other platforms.
Released early this year, Mortal Kombat 11 received generally positive reviews with critics citing the story, gameplay, graphics, and the improved netcode. The game serves as a conclusion to the saga that started all the way back with the first title along with the storyline set in the 2011 reboot.
