NBA 2K16 ’s MyCareer Mode featured a story from director Spike Lee, letting you navigate your character through college to the NBA. In 2K17 , 2K Games continue to add some star power to their game with this year’s MyCareer offering.
Actor Michael B. Jordan will star alongside your character in NBA 2K17 ’s MyCareer Mode, but players will also be able to play as Jordan’s character, Justice Young.
According to the NBA 2K17 blog , the story of this year’s MyCareer Mode is about the “Dynamic Duo,” and that’s when Justice Young was born. Trying to encapsulate the relationship between some of the NBA’s greatest dynamic duos like Steph Curry and Klay Thompson, and Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook (before Durant jumped to the Warriors).
Justice Young is a second-round pick on your team who comes in with a bit of a chip on his shoulder, having been passed over and second-guessed for most of his basketball career. But Justice is a hard worker and a great athlete, and if you show the same devotion to practice and working on your game that he does, he soon becomes an important figure in the fast-moving NBA world that’s opening up in front of your eyes.
NBA 2K17 players will have to make sure both Young and their own character mesh together to become the most formidable duo in the NBA.
On the player creation side, the blog says it has been revamped from 2K16, starting with how you want your character to play. No longer do you just choose a position, you will now choose your style of play.
This archetype will determine your starting stats and your starting cap is raised from six to 10.
The blog continues to emphasize that everything you choose in the player creation, from weight, height etc... impacts how your character plays. The example given is if you choose to be a point guard and you dial up the height, your stats in shooting ability and speed will decrease.
What players need to take away from this, is that they will have to really think about their choices when they create their character.
