On Friday, 2K Sports released a blog post discussing the MyLeague and MyGM features for NBA 2K17 . To say that 2K added a lot to those game modes is an understatement beyond understatements. Much work has been put into these game modes and while much of the attention goes to MyCareer mode, MyLeague and MyGM are the unsung heroes of the NBA 2K17.
There is a lot of information inside the 2K blog about the these two game modes. Trying to cover it all would be difficult and may take up your entire day. However, there are four important discoveries that many fans of a true Franchise mode will enjoy and which will make the game feel as real as possible. Let’s start with the most interesting announcement.
Advanced Rotations
Every year NBA 2K is released, some complain about who is on the court when and how that is figured out. We know each player is designated a certain amount of time on the floor during a game, but there is always that one bench player that ends up on the floor during the last two minutes of the a game. This year 2K added advanced rotations.
Advanced rotations gives users a minute by minute breakdown of who will be on the floor at every point of every quarter. Obviously making substitutions will depend on dead ball situations, but you can be rest assured that if LeBron James needs a Gatorade break at the six minute mark of the third quarter, that will happen. This puts much of the control in your hands, something that all Franchise mode players wants at all times.
Dynamic Rule Changes
Just like in real-life NBA, you will be able to change the rules and regulations of the NBA. The deeper you get into NBA2K17 within MyLeague or MyGM, the option for rules changes will come up for a vote among yourself and the other NBA owners. Things like increasing the salary cap, reducing the shot clock, or even how the draft lottery is done can come up for a vote. These changes need 23 votes to be enacted and for the most part, according to SimBaller, many changes will not occur.
The point of Dynamic Rule Changes is to add to the realism of the modes. Every few years, especially when the Collective Bargaining Agreement comes up in the NBA, rules changes are mentioned and discussed, so it makes sense in the NBA 2K franchise. However, if you want no part of rule changes and these votes, you can just turn off the option.
Team Rivals
NBA 2K has improved game atmosphere over the years, but with Team Rivals, there will be games that will feel like it’s Game 7 of the NBA Finals. When the Knicks and Nuggets play, it’s just another game on the schedule. But when the Knicks play the Nets, it’s a crosstown game with New York City bragging rights – the game may be more intense and the crowd will be more into it.
Games that have playoff implications or a game that features crosstown rivals will pump up the crowd and bring out the best in both teams. According to the blog, there are 20 different factors that the game will look at to determine the rivalry levels for each team. Lakers and Clippers fans should be pretty pumped up about this.
New Transactions And Transactions Rules Added
From adding Veteran Minimum contracts, draft pick protections and trade logic improvements, it seems that 2K left nothing out of MyLeague and MyGm in NBA2K17. The 2K team even added offseason injuries, which some may or may not like, but it adds realism to the game as your star player could twist his knee while mopping his floor and miss half the season.
The big addition to the transactions segment is draft pick protection and offseason trading. In the NBA, a lot of work is done in the offseason and now NBA 2K players can also get some business done when the season is over. Draft pick protections is something that has become very popular among NBA teams, where teams put limitations on the draft pick they trade by only allowing picks outside of a certain part of the draft lottery to be traded. This adds excitement to the NBA Draft part of the game because, let’s be honest, that part was boring and lacked any type spectacle.
These changes should help those who have no interest in playing MyCareer. Franchise mode sports gamers will probably spend hours trying to make a trade or even create an expansion team in San Diego. These four features, along with the many others 2K announced, will make the game even more playable long after the next NBA champion is announced next spring/summer.
NBA 2K17 is set for release on Sept. 20 for all consoles. For those who preordered the game, it is set to be released on Sept. 16 for those lucky folks.
