Luke Cage has yet to release on Netflix, but Misty Knight is already ready to join The Defenders. “I believe I’m safe to say that I will be on The Defenders,” Simone Missick, who will make her debut as Misty Knight at dawn Sept. 30 , told The Wrap.
Misty Knight, one of Luke Cage’s allies in the upcoming series, is a detective with a strong sense of justice. It’s now clear her character is being prepared or a more permanent role in the world of Marvel-Netflix. In the comics, she actually has more of a history with Iron Fist than Luke Cage. The two have a steady on-and-off romantic relationship. She’s also part of Heroes For Hire, a superhero group founded by Luke Cage and Iron Fist. There’s plenty of ways she could fit into The Defenders.
The goal for her role in Luke Cage could be to just introduce her now as a launching point for the future. That way, other series where she’ll appear won’t have to explain her character. Confirmation for Misty Knight’s role in The Defenders is a tad suspicious, considering she hasn’t been revealed as part of the Iron Fist cast. This begs the question of how Iron Fist and Misty Knight meet. If rumors prove true, Iron Fist will appear in the finale episode of Luke Cage. However, if Misty Knight and Iron Fist don’t meet then, it could mean we’ll have to wait until The Defenders to see them on-screen together.
There may be too much going on in the debut season of Iron Fist for Danny Rand to be emotionally involved. After all, he just got back to New York City and he has a long, complicated origin story to tell. He’ll first meet another female superhero in Colleen Wing, who also becomes part of the Heroes For Hire team. It remains to be seen if Coleen Wing will appear in Luke Cage.
In the same way Claire Temple actually has more of a relationship with Luke Cage than Daredevil in the comics, it could be a while until Misty Knight and Iron Fist become better acquainted. It took two seasons of Daredevil to bring Claire Temple and Luke Cage together. Let’s just hope we see their relationship progress in first season of Luke Cage .
Since Luke Cage and Iron Fist are pretty good friends, it would make sense Luke is the one to introduce the two. In the comics, it was Colleen Wing that brought Iron Fist and Misty Knight together. Do you think Iron Fist will meet Misty Knight sooner than later? Let us know in the comments below!
