After having a huge presence at E3 2017, Nintendo sets its eyes on the largest pop culture event in the country, San Diego Comic-Con.
While the convention is best known for its television and movie screenings and panels, there are still a ton of video game publishers that attend each and every year with Nintendo making the trip to San Diego on the regular.
“Bringing our games and experiences directly to the fans is very important to us,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of sales and marketing in a press release. “Since San Diego Comic-Con is full of so many Nintendo fans of all ages, it’s the perfect place to let everyone enjoy many of our upcoming games.”
So what can Nintendo fans who are attending Comic-Con expect to see from the company? Well, there will be plenty of time to try out some of the upcoming Nintendo Switch and 3DS games on the showfloor and off-site.
Nintendo will also host tournaments throughout the convention. Similar to E3, Nintendo will showcase Splatoon 2, ARMS and Pokken Tournament DX, but the Comic Con events will have a different twist. These competitions are open to the public and will be hosted at the San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina space at various times throughout the week. Participation will be on a first-come, first-served basis. If selected, competitors will start with an eight-player Turf War match in Splatoon 2 . The winning team of four will then compete against each other in the hit fighting game ARMS . The final two players will enter the finals with a one-on-one battle in upcoming Nintendo Switch game Pokkén Tournament DX . The Play Nintendo Challenge will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on July 20 and July 21, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 23.
