The recent Nintendo Direct has been a huge success for Nintendo, if I may say so myself. For one thing, hype surrounding their upcoming gameSuper Mario Maker 2 was a bit low. There wasn’t much information that dropped regarding the title between February, when the title was first announced (also in a Direct) and this May’s Direct. But when the news dropped, it managed to create a hype for it that wasn’t as powerful as before.
Of course, even though the Direct promised a load of information for Super Mario Maker 2, that doesn’t mean that that’s all we actually got. To be honest, I ended up being more interested in one of the lesser announcements: the Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers.
Near the tail end of the Direct presentation, Nintendo announced a very special offer for people who use Nintendo Online services: Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers, which can save you a lot money in buying new games, and games that aren’t likely to drop in price for another few years. The Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers are being sold for $99.99, and come in pairs. Each voucher can be redeemed for one game of your choice, and if you take advantage of buying $60 titles, then you end up saving $20 per purchase.
Now the reason I personally think this is a big deal is the fact that it lasts for a year after purchase, and the Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers themselves are available until July 31, 2019. This means if you purchase enough, you can end up getting all Switch exclusive titles at a discounted price, which can go to other Nintendo-related expenses (like Nintendo Online subscription fees). For some, the $10 off per game isn’t a big deal, but it could be enough for people who really like Nintendo games.
Here is the list of titles eligible for purchase with the Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers. It’d be crazy not to expect this list to grow in a year, since I assume some fans will buy loads of vouchers. In any case, most of the AAA Nintendo games can now be had at discount prices.
- Super Mario Maker 2
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
- 1-2-Switch
