The Pokémon Company has announced the latest online competition for Pokémon Sun and Moon to take place in May. The May International Challenge will allow Sun and Moon players to compete and also receive three new Mega Stones for Tyranitar, Manectric and Abomasnow.
Like many of the Mega Evolutions from Generation 6, the three Mega Stones for Tyranitar, Manectric and Abomasnow are not available in the Alola Region through any other means, so trainers will want to participate in the May International Challenge to get their hands on these rare items.
The May International Challenge will have similar rules to the April International Challenge online competition. Each Pokémon battle will be a Double Battle using VGC 2017 rules requiring the Alola Pokédex only. This means Cosmog, Cosmoem, Solgaleo, Lunala, Magearna, Necrozma and Zygarde are not allowed. Mega Stones are also not allowed. As was the case in the April International Challenge, even though a Pokémon may appear in the Alola Dex, if they originated from X and Y or Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire they will not be eligible.
Registration will be open from May 17 to May 25, while battles will run from May 26 to May 28. All entrants who partake in three battles will get the Tyranitar, Manectric and Abomasnow Mega Stones.
If you want to sign up for the May International Challenge and win the three Mega Stones, follow these steps:
First, log on to your account from the Pokémon Global Link (PGL) homepage and select Online Competitions in the main menu. You’ll then be able to read and accept the regulations on the PGL.
You’ll need a Pokémon Trainer Club account (if you don’t have one, you can sign up here) your own Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon video game, and a Battle Team of eligible Pokémon.
Once you’ve signed up for the May International Challenge, you’ll need to download your Digital Player ID within your Sun or Moon copy of the game. To do so, select Festival Plaza on the X menu in your game, select Battle, Visit the Battle Spot, and then Online Competition.
Be aware that when you download your Digital Player ID, the lock on your Battle Team for any previous competitions will be removed.
Trainers planning to participate -- and you really should -- ought to expect to see plenty of Tapus and Ultra Beasts. They currently dominate the metagame of Sun and Moon so you should either prepare your own team with those Pokémon or bring Pokémon that can combat them.
Other popular Pokémon from the April International Challenge are Garchomp, Arcanine and Salamence.
So what team will you bring to the May International Challenge? What movesets do you run for Mega Tyranitar, Abomasnow and Manectric? Let us know in the comments section below.
