Ever since EA held an exclusive licensing contract with Porsche more than a decade ago, racing fans were stuck with Need For Speed if they wanted to get some Stuttgart action going. At long last, reports back in 2015 announced EA's deal would expire, giving other racing titles a chance to add Porsche to its roster. We held our collective breaths and Polyphony did not disappoint – Gran Turismo Sport will feature the legendary German sports car make on its roster. It's hard to believe, but GT Sport will mark the first time a Porsche will be in the car list in 20 years of Gran Turismo franchise history.
The announcement came by the way of the official PlayStation Russia Twitter account. While its tweet intended to hype the arrival of the GT Sport European beta this weekend, fans were more excited about the attached image:
And the availability of Porsche's in Gran Turismo Sport was confirmed once again when the image was also shared via a tweet via PlayStation Spain:
While both teased images only show the current '991' Porsche 911 GT3 RS, we can definitely expect images of more Porsches coming to GT Sport. Hopefully, we'll also get to drive Porsche's latest mid-engine Porsche 911 GT3 RSR racecar as well as some of the more iconic vehicles from Porsche's illustrious history, like the 935K, Gulf 917, GT1 LM car, Porsche Carrera GT and more.
Stay tuned as we expect to hear more about Porsche from Gran Turismo Sport in the weeks ahead. Gran Turismo Sport is expected to arrive later this year.
