This week, Famitsu interviewed the renowned Tales of series producer Hideo Baba about some upcoming projects he's working on. According to reports, Square Enix has created a new Tokyo-based Studio Istolia to begin work on a brand-new RPG project known as Project Prelude Rune. Baba is now at the helm of Istolia.
So what is Project Prelude Rune all about? Surprisingly, Baba shared a lot: via Niche Gamer, Project Prelude Rune aims to be a middle-fantasy RPG, complete with dwarves, elves, and characters from Norse mythology. What's more, but Baba described the game will evoke warmth and compassion that will be inviting to new players. Baba noted the game will avoid blood or violence and instead feature a world inspired by the anime and manga he loved as a child.
"The project aims to build a new RPG with a new fantasy: unfolding across a vast land teeming with life," said Square Enix. "Nurtured by the earth, the many peoples of this land dare to dream, fighting for what is just—and this is their tale."
Beyond that, we'll have to wait quite a while before Square Enix shares a release date window. Personally, I just really want Squeenix to stop getting sidetracked and focus on getting Final Fantasy 7 Remake finished as soon as possible instead. Stay tuned as we expect to learn more about Project Prelude Rune in the months ahead.
