In a somewhat surprising move, Sony has announced there will be an increase in the cost of PS+ starting on Sept. 22. This news comes from a post on the PlayStation Blog.
As the post mentions, the new price for a year’s subscription to PlayStation Plus will be $59.99 (or $69.99 CAD). The three-month subscription has been increased to $24.99 (or $29.99 CAD) and the one-month subscription remains the same at $9.99 (but raised to $11.99 CAD).
“The new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members,” the blog post reads. “As a member, you will continue to enjoy the benefits and features that enable shared experiences, such as online multiplayer, free games, and exclusive discounts. You will also continue to get exclusive benefits such as online game save storage and discounts across the PlayStation digital services.”
It seems the new prices will not go into effect until Sept. 22. This means if you know you want to continue to subscribe to PS Plus, now’s the time to get your renewals taken care of. If you want to cancel your subscription, make sure you turn off the auto-renew feature that may be on your account.
This is the first time the service has seen price hikes in North America since it was launched in 2010.
