Sony has revealed the free games coming to PS+ subscribers in August 2017, and it’s a great list! Along with a list of free games, PS+ subscribers will also be able to rent select movies for 99 cents starting in August.
PS4
The first game coming to PS4 in August is Just Cause 3. This open-world mayhem simulator is all about creating massive explosions and destroying everything around you. Oh yeah, there’s also some story about overthrowing a government or something, but you’re going to be too busy strapping rockets onto cows to notice.
The second game for PS4 players is Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry. This stand-alone DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag follows Adewale as he uses his Assassin skills to free slaves all over the Caribbean.
Additionally, the PS Vita game Downwell will be playable on PS4 via crossbuy. Details on Downwell can be found in the PS Vita section.
PS3
The first game coming to PS3 in August is Super Motherload. Set on Mars in an alternate-reality Cold War, this co-op game is all about digging through a procedurally generated world in search of treasures.
The second game coming to PS3 is Snakeball. This game is pretty much what you’d expect a multiplayer Snake to be like. Playing in an arena, you must guide your character into collecting as many glowing orbs as possible, which makes your vehicle longer. Watch out for your opponent’s vehicle, or even your own if it gets long enough.
PS Vita
The first game coming to PS Vita via PS+ is Downwell. This retro-inspired game is a vertically scrolling shooter, with players controlling a character who is exploring down a well and can shoot projectiles out of his boots. Downwell will also be available to play on PS4 via crossbuy.
The last game included in August’s free PS+ games is Level 22. This humorous take on the stealth genre sees players controlling a dude named Gary who is late for work. It’s up to you to guide Gary through his office without anyone noticing that he’s not sitting at his desk.
As mentioned before, PS+ subscribers can also rent movies for less than $1 starting in August. Only one movie will be available at a time, with each offer lasting for one week. The movies included in the program are as follows:
Week 1: The LEGO Batman Movie
Week 2: Logan
Week 3: Power Rangers
Week 4: Kong: Skull Island
Week 5: The Boss Baby
Week 6: Ghost in the Shell
