An early copy of the patch notes for the PS4 5.0 system update have been leaked to Eurogamer, detailing changes coming to the PS4 and PS4 Pro. While the patch notes show what changes are coming to the PS4, they did not include a release date for when the update will be available to download.
Major changes include the ability for PS4 Pro users to stream to Twitch at 1080p and 60fps. There’s also a new ability to follow PSN accounts, similar to how Xbox One gamers can follow accounts. This means you’ll be able to track accounts without getting an approved friend request or filling up friend’s list slots. This feature can be set to public or private if you don’t want others to follow your PSN activity. You will also be able to block individual users from following you.
The last of the major changes detailed by Eurogamer concerns how accounts are handled on the PS4. New “family accounts” are being introduced which allows for multiple parent accounts to be set up alongside multiple linked child accounts. Each child account can have different permissions, so a teenager can play some games his or her younger sibling would be unable to access.
There will also be some minor changes coming in the 5.0 update, such as spectator comments on screen while broadcasting in VR mode, the ability to link broadcasts to a PlayStation Community and push notifications for events.
Speaking of push notifications, they will now be visible from the Quick Menu along with the status of uploads and downloads. There are also seven more languages supported: Czech, Thai, Greek, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Romanian and Hungarian.
Lastly, Eurogamer reports that Sony is launching an update for the PlayStation App for smart devices. The update will “boast an improved design and performance” according to the leaked document.
