PUBG announced that the PUBG Global Series: Berlin has been postponed. The tournament was initially slated for April, with qualifiers scheduled for February and March. The decision to postpone the games was in light of the World Health Organization declaring the coronavirus a global health emergency.
In a statement, PUBG revealed that the decision to postpone the tournament was difficult, but its top priorities are "the health and safety of our players, employees, and fans." This means that the dates and times of the different regional qualifiers could likely change. However, PUBG did confirm that their "plan to host four PUBG global esports events in 2020 remains unchanged, and we are actively exploring options for when a replacement event can be held."
PGS: Berlin
This is the first event of the 2020 PUBG Global Series. The tournament offers an initial prize pool of $500,000. There's also PGS: Berlin items to be sold in PUBG, with 25% of the revenue to be shared between the participating teams. Of this share, 10% goes to the PGS: Berlin prize pool with another 10% being distributed to participants. The final 5% is added to the PGC 2020 prize pool.
To be held in Messe, Berlin, the tournament has 32 teams fighting it out over three stages. The Group Stage has the participants divided into two Groups of 16 teams, with each Group having 12 matches. The top six teams of each group move to the Grand Final with the bottom two being eliminated. The remaining teams that didn't make it into the Grand Final go to the Elimination Stage.
In the Elimination Stage, a total of 16 teams fight across 12 matches. The top four teams advance to the Grand Final, with the rest being eliminated. The Grand Final has 16 teams playing a total of 18 matches.
PGC 2020
The PGS is part of the plan by PUBG to evolve, as well as expand, its esports scene. The first event is PGS: Berlin, and the season will eventually culminate at the PGC 2020. There are going to be a total of three PGS events for the year before the PGC. Each PGS follows the same format of having 32 teams compete in different stages. You can read more about it here.
