The APAC Six Invitational Closed Qualifiers match between MercenarieZ and CYCLOPS Athlete Gaming just concluded. The qualifiers are in a best of three series with the top eight teams representing the region. The matchup between MrcZ and CAG was the most anticipated game of the semi-finals.
The first map of the series was Oregon. MrcZ was unable to deny CAG on their attack even with M4KER playing Blackbeard. MrcZ even tried to take a tactical rehost by staying AFK on the roof. That didn’t go well as a member of CAG ran out of the building and killed the AFK player. CAG dominated the first half with a 5-1 scoreline. They dominated MrcZ on the attack as well.
M4KER’s clutch on round eight was phenomenal for MrcZ. He managed to clutch a 1v3 situation by killing the planter, and then, pre-firing two CAG members. The gunplay from M4KER gave MrcZ another chance to come back. However, MrcZ fell under pressure and lost the first map with a 7-3 scoreline.
The final match of the best of three series was played on Consulate. This match was super exciting to watch as both teams played extremely well on the map. CAG did use many weird strategies, such as using Fuze on the piano wall to get rid of a player in the bathroom and throwing grenades at weird areas of the map.
The match went into overtime match point and MrcZ almost took the map. But CAG played an amazing post plant in the final round that allowed the team to win the final map with an 8-7 scoreline. While this match relegated the only South Asian team in the competition, it proves that the region is improving.
