The APAC Six Invitational Closed Qualifiers match between MercenarieZ and Union Gaming concluded a while ago. The qualifiers are in a best of three series with the top eight teams representing the region. The matchup between MrcZ and Union Gaming was the most anticipated game.
The first map of the series was Clubhouse. But it wasn’t really fun to watch as MrcZ demolished Union Gaming on the map with a 7-1 scoreline. The series went all the way to the final map, which is what everyone expected considering MrcZ's caliber.
The final match of the best of three series was played on Kafe Dostoyevsky, which is a defender sided map. Union Gaming was super aggressive on their defense. This allowed them to take five consecutive rounds against MrcZ.
However, MrcZ did a complete reverse sweep by changing the momentum in their favor. The roam strategies from MrcZ wasn’t exceptional, but UG was unable to counter it. The Vigil pick from M4KER made the most impact. While roaming, MrcZ effectively evaded drones and even got a few kills in the process.
Union Gaming took a rehost at the 7-6 match point round that broke MrcZ’s momentum. Yet MrcZ was too strong for Union Gaming to catch off guard even after the rehost. The final round was won due to Doc7er and M4KER’s efforts. Their 4v2 clutch by walking down into the site and killing all the enemies won MrcZ the game. The final map concluded with an 8-6 scoreline favoring MrcZ.
