The third season of Rainbow Six Siege’s Year 7 is now live. Titled Operation Brutal Swarm, it introduces the new Singaporean Operator Grim, an additional map, and Phase 2 of the new Reputation System.
Going back to the game’s newest attacker, Grim is a high-speed and low-health Operator. His primary weapon is a 552 Commando or SG-CQB while his secondary weapon is a P229. His gadget is called the Kawan Hive Launcher, which can fire a projectile that deploys a canister on the floor and releases a swarm of nanobots into the air. Defenders that come into contact with this swarm will have their position revealed as well as put them at high risk. The only way to be safe again is when the nanobots run out of battery.
New Map
Players should be happy to know that the fan-favorite map Stadium is becoming a permanent map. However, it’s returning under a new name, Stadium Bravo, and uses elements from other maps and indestructible bulletproof glass. The unique layout of the map ensures that both need to come up with new strategies if they want to win.
Recoil System
Operation Brutal Swarm also introduces a big balancing change that affects weapons. In particular, the recoil system is overhauled so that the recoil of each weapon has been adjusted with the intensity increasing during sustained bursts of fire.
This change is exclusive to PC. Console players are going to have dedicated recoil updates tailored for the controllers.
Other Updates
Other updates that players can expect:
- The addition of EMP grenades to select Operators’ loadouts.
- Phase 2 of the Reputation System introduces a new penalty for abusive text chat.
- The ability to report cheaters in the Match Replay viewer.
- New Map Ban phase includes five maps and updates to the tactical map.
Battle Pass Perk
Players should also be happy to know that the new season sees the return of a fan favorite Battle Pass Perk which is the 10% discount off all items in the shop. This perk will be available on future Battle Passes as well. There’s also the Buy For A Friend Battle Pass Program, where players can buy premium Battle Passes for those who don’t own one.
Rainbow Six Siege is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
