Ratchet & Clank is one of the most beloved PlayStation games of all time. That is why when it was announced coming to Sony’s next-gen console, the fans rejoiced about its impending release. That said, it would appear that the game has a relatively small file size.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is going to come out as an exclusive PS5 title. Normally, new titles would usually equate to a larger file size, right? Well, apparently that is not the case here.
According to @PlaystationSize, the game’s download size is just 33.618 GB for Version 0.1.000.007.
Players who preordered the game can download it starting today but the game will officially be launched on June 11.
Now, because of the improved graphics and new technologies at play here, it is natural for people to assume that it might just be a typo. However, the 33 GB file size of the game is actually true and confirmed by James Stevenson, community director at Insomniac Games.
In his tweet, Stevenson replied to a post stating that the game is: “33gb of deliciousness.”
Why It’s Smaller Than Usual
Considering the lean size of the game, fans are going to be skeptical at first. Do not worry as this is explained briefly by Stevenson.
According to his follow-up tweet, the game’s file size is because of the different compression techniques that were used on native PS5 games. In addition, the PS5’s SSD may play a part here as well.
This is a pretty interesting thing from a game development standpoint. Some games are notorious for eating up one’s storage space, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a great example of this. So, if there is a game that is visually appealing and has a smaller file size than usual, then you can expect benefits like more free space on your console.
Fans of the game can now pre-download the entire “33 GB of deliciousness” onto their PS5. Keep in mind that the game can only be played once it officially launches on June 11.
So, what do you think of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart’s file size being less than 50 GB in total?
