The release date for Rockstar’s highly anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 may have been leaked, thanks to a European retailer. Coolshop, a popular video game chain, has RDR 2 listed on their site with a June 8, 2018 release date. Normally, random sites posting release dates without any outside input from the game manufacturer are cause of skepticism, as they should be. However, Coolshop has a history of accurately leaking Rockstar games’ release dates before the dates have been released to the public.
Grand Theft Auto V , the car-jacking simulator that dozens of 12-year-olds with computers buy Shark Cards for, was announced for Xbox One and PS4 without a firm release date and several delays. Coolshop posted the next-gen release date on their site with a Nov. 14, 2014 release date but quickly changed it to a more vague Dec. 31 after the internet caught wind of the clue. The game was eventually released on Nov. 18, four days behind the site’s targeted prediction. Using this logic, it seems possible that RDR 2 might also have been leaked ahead of time, but that’s heavy speculation.
The GTA V leak announced the game’s release on a Friday and the game finally came out on a Tuesday four days later. June 8 also happens to be a Friday, so who knows if that random internet lightning happens to strike twice.
June 12 is the first day of E3 2018, the popular LA video game convention, and it would make sense for Rockstar to attempt to capitalize on the hype. Red Dead Redemption 2 was officially announced at E3 2017, so it wouldn’t be too far fetched of an idea to assume they’d release the game a year later. If you’re looking at this date as more of a RDR2 release date window, it’s also possible it’ll drop the week before E3 on Tuesday, June 5. It’ll give gamers plenty of time to get hyped about it and get it out of their system before an influx of news about other games. It’d even give Rockstar a chance to drop a big announcement the next week, too.
There’s zero proof that RDR 2 will actually come out on June 8, but for the weary cowboys that have been waiting for a sequel for over a decade, it’s all we can hold onto. Holding onto hope for a Spring 2018 release is tricky too, as Rockstar has a history of delaying major games. GTA V was pushed back several times before its release.
Personally, I don’t completely believe the rumors, but I’ll believe anything to be riding on a horse, zooming down the sandy dunes of my childhood.

Editor's Note: A previous headline identified Coolshop as Dutch, but it is in fact Danish. We regret the error. Please forgive us Danes.Tivoli is better than Disneyland. Legos are the shit. Gammel Dansk is the best breakfast drink.
