Resident Evil 7 Biohazard has been well received across the U.S. and the U.K., but since the game’s release, Japanese sales are lagging behind.
Via Dualshockers, Media Create, a Japanese sales research firm, learned that the PS4 version of Resident Evil 7 has sold only 58.9 percent of its initial shipment during its first week. Media Create published their top 20 sales list for the week of Jan. 23, with RE7 taking the number one spot at 187,306 copies sold. In comparison, RE6 sold 635,000 units in Japan during its debut week. So what’s next?
It’s not all doom and gloom for RE7 in Japan. Sony saw a boost in overall PS4 sales this week, partly due to the debut of RE7 and restocks of the PSVR, bumping up console sales to 121.26 percent of the previous week.
Sony hasn’t been that generous with shipments of PSVR in Japan up to this point, which likely affected early numbers for RE7. With new PSVR unit shipments, Media Create reports retailers expect to see an uptick in the sales for RE7.
As for the Xbox One, RE7 only just made Media Create’s top 50 list, ranking 49 on the list. No specific sales numbers were provided.
We’re rooting for Resident Evil 7’s sales to jump up in Japan. It is one the hottest games worldwide right now, and iDigitalTimes’ Multimedia Editor Zulai Serrano had huge praise for the game in her review.
